According to recent reports, a Texas man is standing in defense of the American flag after he was told to remove it from his balcony because it was a “threat towards the Muslim community.”
In an interview with KHOU, Duy Tran told reporters that he has friends who have died for this country. He decided to hang the flag from his balcony in their honor after moving into a new apartment in Webster, Texas. Unfortunately, as soon as he hung Ole Glory, he was told by management to take it down.
“What really stunned me is that she said it’s a threat towards the Muslim community,” Tran told reporters. “I’m not a threat toward nobody.”
The manager for Tran’s apartment complex, the Lodge at El Dorado, denies that implication. She claims that displays must conform to community guidelines.
“Such guidelines maintain the aesthetics of our apartment community and provide for the safety of all residents,” her statement read. “The apartment community already proudly displays our country’s flag in a safe and appropriate manner at the entrances to our community.”
Still, Tran insists that he has no intentions to remove the symbol of his patriotism.
“I’m gonna leave my flag there, as an American, until she shows me proof that I don’t have the right to leave my flag there,” he concluded.
